How to set up review alerts on Slack

In this post, we'll cover how to set up alerts on Slack for any business's review on any platform.

Whether you want to track your own reviews, your competitors', or your clients' reviews, you're in the right place.

What we're aiming for

What you'll get is notifications in the Slack channel of your choice that look like this

Each notification comes with the review content, reviewer name, etc. when available, and 3 buttons

  1. Full Review: This takes you to the review platform, so anyone on your team can read the entire review, and read it in the context of the review platform it was posted on.
  2. Translate to: This will translate the review to the language of your choice, and post the translation into a thread under the notification. You can also auto-translate the notifications themselves if you want to.
  3. Update Tags: On Reviewflowz, you can apply tags to individual reviews. This is a shortcut to apply tags directly from Slack. For example, if someone picks up the review and takes care of replying, they can add a tag "In Progress" to the review so that nobody else starts replying.

Requirements

Before we dive in, you'll need a few things to get this to work

  1. A Slack account and the ability to add new Slack apps. You can read more about how to add Slack apps to your workspace here.
  2. A Reviewflowz account, with a Lite subscription – starting at $12 / review profile / month

Step 1. Connecting to your review sources

The first thing you'll need to do is to connect the review sources you want to track reviews for to your reviewflowz account.

To do that, click + New review source from anywhere on the application.

There are 2 ways to connect to a new review source on reviewflowz.

  1. Search the review profile manually in the search bar: Select the right platform, search, and select the right profile. If you're having trouble finding it, you can also copy and paste the profile URL directly in the search bar. Or hit us up on the chat, we'll be happy to help.
  2. Connect to Google My Business: If you run multiple locations on Google, this will be a lot quicker. After you've authorized the Google connection, you'll be able to select what locations you want to sync with Reviewflowz like on the screenshot below

Step 2. Create the alert automation

You should now have at least one review source in your account.

Now, we're going to create the alert automation, to send notifications every time a new review is published.

Select "Notifications" to create an alert for every new review.

First, we'll need to select where we want to send the reviews.

Click "New channel", and then select "Slack"

You'll be taken to a Slack authentication screen, where you can select your workspace, and the channel you want to post reviews to.

If you run into any issues here, check out our guide on how to add new Slack apps.

After you've successfully authorized us to post to Slack, you'll be sent back to your automation panel.

You'll also get confirmation in the Slack channel you selected that we're able to post.

We're almost done!

Just a few options to choose from.

  1. Allow replying from Slack: If you want the ability to reply to new reviews directly from Slack, select "Yes". Anyone on that Slack channel can reply. This requires a Pro subscription or above. Most customers have a "read-only" channel open to everyone, and an operational channel to reply easily to new reviews.
  2. Filters: You can filter review alerts to avoid sending empty reviews (frequent on Google), and / or to send only positive / negative reviews
  3. Language: You can automatically translate all new reviews to the language of your choice, or keep the default language, and translate in-thread within Slack when needed.
  4. Review Profiles: This is where you define what review sources you want to track from that Slack channel. You can select all sources, or just a few, it's entirely up to you!

When you're ready, hit "Save"

At this point, you'll be prompted to activate your automation. Click "Yes" and you'll be up and running!

This won't do anything until you get new reviews (matching your filters, if any) on one of the profiles you're tracking

To confirm everything is set up properly, we'll offer to send the latest review.

Click "Yes", and you should get a nice review notification in the Slack channel you connected!

That's it! All done!
